Romi Herrera Submits Over 500 Petitions in Trenton

Trenton, NJ – Romi Herrera, a former member of the Garfield City Council, made notable strides in his campaign for the New Jersey Legislature yesterday by submitting over 500 petitions in Trenton to secure his position on the ballot for Legislative District 35.

Running in a district where Hispanics make up 52% of the population, Herrera is committed to enhancing representation for working families, immigrants, and underserved communities. His campaign emphasizes expanding economic opportunities, improving public safety, and guaranteeing access to quality education, fair taxes, and healthcare.

“I have spent decades advocating for our community—defending immigrant rights, supporting small business owners, and ensuring our families have the essential resources they need. As a parent and a lifelong champion for working families, I understand the everyday struggles of my neighbors. Now, as a candidate for my district, I am committed to giving our community the strong voice it deserves in Trenton,” said Herrera.“ I am ready to push for policies that uplift everyone and create opportunities for all.”

Herrera has an impressive record of public service. He was the first Hispanic to serve on the Garfield City Council, where he championed small businesses, community programs, and immigrant rights. He plans to bring that same commitment to the State Legislature, advocating for policies that meet the needs of District 35’s diverse and hardworking residents.

Herrera’s dedication goes beyond Garfield, as shown by his roles on the Bergen County Latino American Advisory Board, the Garfield Planning Board, and as Vice-Chair of the Garfield Democratic County Committee, Peruvian American Political Action Committee, and Latino Action Network (LAN). With his petitions submitted, Herrera now looks forward to building a grassroots campaign that energizes voters throughout the district. “This campaign is about the people.
