Romi Herrera’s story is one of resilience, hard work, and an unwavering commitment to service. A proud Peruvian immigrant, Romi came to Paterson in 1993 with a dream—to build a better future for his family and community. After settling in Garfield two decades ago, he became a small business owner, a dedicated advocate, and a history-making leader. In 2020, he shattered barriers by becoming Garfield’s first Hispanic councilman, proving that representation matters and that every voice deserves to be heard.

As the founder and president of Garfield United, Romi has championed initiatives that uplift families and strengthen the community. From free citizenship workshops to recreational programs, health fairs, and annual toy drives, he has worked tirelessly to provide resources, support, and hope to those who need it most. His leadership is about more than policies—it’s about people.

Beyond Garfield, Romi serves on the Bergen County Latino American Advisory Board, as Vice-Chairman of the Garfield Democratic County Committee, and on the City of Garfield Planning Board, always pushing for progress that benefits working families. As a small business owner, he and his wife, Elena, co-own Herrera Tax Solutions, a business built on trust and dedication to helping others succeed.

Now, Romi is ready to bring that same passion and commitment to New Jersey’s 35th Legislative District. He’s running for office to fight for stronger communities, better opportunities, and a government that works for everyone—not just the privileged few. His vision is clear: a future where every family can thrive, and every resident has a seat at the table.
